The short version
Your hours, the apps you lock, your answers and the record of what you didn’t order stay on your phone. There are no accounts and no Kitchen Closed servers. Two outside services get a little data: PostHog, for usage stats tied to a random ID, and RevenueCat, which handles purchases with Apple and Google. No ads, and we never sell data.
This policy covers the Kitchen Closed app and getkitchenclosed.com, run by A3 Studio L.L.C-FZ (“Kitchen Closed”, “we”, “us”).
What stays on your phone
Everything personal lives in the app’s storage on your phone. Your answers, your plan and what you tried to open are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Your answers. The setup questions, including your name if you give it and your reasons for being here.
Your plan. The hours you set, the apps and websites you lock, what a usual order costs you and how often you order.
What you tried to open. When you tried to open a locked app or site, which one it was, and whether you used a key. The app keeps about ten weeks of this to work out money kept, nights closed and your Sunday receipts.
Your keys. Your balance, and every key you’ve bought or spent. Usage stats include your balance, your purchases and the keys you spend: see What we collect.
On iPhone, this data is included in your phone’s backups (to iCloud or your computer), which you and Apple control. On Android it’s left out of cloud backups, though moving to a new phone with Android’s transfer tool brings it along.
How the lock works
On iPhone, Kitchen Closed uses Apple’s Screen Time. You pick apps and websites in Apple’s own list, and Apple gives the app private tokens for them, not a list of what’s on your phone. When you open a locked app during the hours you set, Apple shows the closed screen, and Kitchen Closed notes the time and the app’s name, on your phone.
On Android, Kitchen Closed uses an accessibility service. It’s told which app is on screen, and nothing else: it can’t read your screen or what you type. During the hours you set, it covers your locked apps with the closed screen, and notes which one you tried to open and when, on your phone.
Either way, we never see what you order, browse or type.
What we collect
Usage stats, through PostHog. To learn what helps and fix what breaks, the app sends events: the setup steps you reach, the permissions you allow, purchases (which one, its price and currency), keys spent (for how long, what they cost, how hungry you said you were, and whether you came from the closed screen, Home or the timer), how the 10-minute timer ends, receipts shared, and that your hours or settings changed, never what to. Each event also carries your key balance, whether strict mode is on, whether you’ve finished setup, whether the lock is on, whether notifications are allowed and whether you’ve picked your delivery apps. PostHog also records installs, app opens, the screens you visit, crashes, and your device model, system version, language, time zone and app version.
These events carry a random ID made on your phone, not your name, email or advertising ID. Like any internet service, PostHog sees your IP address and may use it to estimate your country.
Purchases, through RevenueCat. Keys and Kitchen Closed Pro are bought through the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat records each purchase, and whether you have Pro, under the same random ID, so the app can unlock what you paid for. We never see your card details or billing address; Apple and Google keep those.
Email. If you write to us, we get your address and your message, and use them only to reply.
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its fonts and images are served from getkitchenclosed.com itself.
What we never collect
No account, name, email or phone number, unless you email us. No location, contacts, photos or microphone. No advertising ID, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no ads. We don’t sell or rent personal information, or share it for advertising.
How we use it
To run the app, unlock what you paid for, see which parts of Kitchen Closed help people order less, and fix crashes. We don’t use it for anything else.
Who handles it
A few services help us run Kitchen Closed, and each uses data only to provide its service to us: PostHog (usage stats, stored in the United States), RevenueCat (purchases and Pro), Apple and Google (downloads, payments and, on iPhone, Screen Time), and Cloudflare (this website).
Reminders, like the one 30 minutes before your apps lock, are scheduled on your phone; no push service is involved. We share personal information with no one else, unless the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting
Everything on your phone is deleted when you delete the app. There’s no account to close.
We keep usage stats only while they help us improve the app. Because they’re tied only to a random ID, we can’t look yours up by name or email.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. Under laws like the GDPR in the EU and UK, and US state laws such as California’s, you can also ask for a copy to take elsewhere, object to or limit how we use it, and complain to your local data protection authority.
For the EU and UK: we rely on our legitimate interest in improving the app for usage stats, and on our contract with you for purchases.
Email [email protected] and we’ll reply within 30 days. We won’t treat you differently for asking.
Children
Kitchen Closed isn’t made for children under 13, or the minimum age where you live, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has used it, email us.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and say so in the app before it applies. If Kitchen Closed is ever sold, this policy still covers the data we hold, and we’ll tell you before anything changes.
